The Battle of First Manassas on July 21, 1861, resulted in about 3,500 casualties in the span of less than twenty-four hours. The first major battle of the Civil War revealed how unprepared the armies were to handle the wounded. After the battle, the horror continued in numerous hospitals throughout the area. Join historian Paige Gibbons Backus to explore the various hospitals established after the battle and discover how historians are able to use the limited primary resources available to learn about this facet of the Civil War.
This presentation will be held at the historic Winery at Bull Run, located next door to the battlefield. Tickets are $20, and proceeds help us support Manassas National Battlefield Park. Reserve your ticket at: http://weblink.donorperfect.com/HospitalsProgram2025
